Robson Ward is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Building and studied at Reading and Birmingham.
He started his own business in 1968 when he opened a small Design Studio in Malvern and worked on a number of projects such as Upton Marina and the Stephen Thursfield Shop in Worcester. The Worcester flagship store incorporated the very first Laura Ashley shop outside London.
Interior Design was always a clear passion and early on in his career was able to feature one of the early Valenti Pytell designs in a new branch of a leading chain restaurant in Evesham.
Adrian enjoyed using items made that were ‘not the norm’. At that time you could only get mass-produced kitchens, which did not suite his passion for creating something unique and beautiful. He managed to find a small company that would make to his own designs.
He became particularly interested in kitchens when renovating his own property in Malvern. He built his own kitchen, which was featured in the Birmingham Past. This resulted in a huge volume of enquires and led to the opening of his own manufacturing unit called the Pine Workshop, based in The Old Malvern Water Bottling Works in the centre of Great Malvern.
Initially they exhibited at all the major Exhibitions such as the Daily Mail London Idea Homes Exhibition and for many years offered a countrywide service-installing kitchen from Guernsey to Scotland.
Pine was all the rage in the 1980s and Adrian changed the trading name to Robson Ward Kitchens & Bathrooms who quickly led the field in innovative finishes by going to such lengths as sand blasting to give a distressed look. Some of the inspiration came from the Austrian painted furniture and from an early stage Robson Ward Kitchens used to hand paint the doors with various flower designs.
The firm expanded to include a large range of add on furniture sourced from around the world.
The Bristol showroom opened in 2004 in a beautiful building off the Whiteladies Road.
Today the trend is toward the plainer hand painted finish although Robson offer a bespoke Kitchen Bathroom & Bedroom service in a wide range of woods and painted finishes.
